What the French want from the Metaverse

The term metaverse has been in the news for a few months.

Since the social network Facebook suddenly changed its name to Meta, everyone is only talking about this already active virtual world.

For some, this parallel world would even represent the future of the internet.

Dynata surveyed more than 11,000 consumers in 11 countries (US, Canada, UK, France, Spain, Germany, Netherlands, Italy, China, Japan and Australia) for its report » economy of new experience to know their expectations regarding this emerging trend.

According to the study conducted by Dynata 43% of the French are interested in different types of virtual experiences.

Under these :

  • 51% of respondents said they would be interested in a virtual tour of a museum/art gallery/exhibition
  • 45% of respondents indicated that they would be interested in a virtual theater, opera or dance performance.
  • 44% of those surveyed stated that they were interested in a virtual music concert.
  • 43% of respondents said they were interested in a virtual safari, visit to the zoo, etc.
  • 40% of respondents said they would be interested in a virtual class for fun (dance, cooking/baking, art, creative writing, etc.)
  • 40% of respondents said they were interested in virtual travel
  • 40% of respondents said they would be interested in a virtual fitness class (Peloton, Apple Fitness, etc.)

The pandemic has increased French interest in the virtual

The acceleration of the development of the metaverse and these numbers are explained in particular by the arrival of the pandemic.

The French have been more interested in online experiences with courses over the past two years. This brings additional awareness to the Metaverse.

The pandemic has also changed the habits of the French, encouraging them to meet up with friends via screens in the virtual world.

A very different attraction from one generation to another

The Gen Z (25 and under) are most receptive, with 40% and 30% for millennials (25-39 years).

A trend that we find less baby boomers (56-74 years old) with only 8% of which express interest.

When it comes to virtually traveling the world, Gen Z (25 and under) and Millennials (25-39) are the most interested 53% and 41%.

New cultural and playful experiences

When Dynata asked the French how the Metaverse would affect their lives, the most popular answer was “Cultural Experiences” followed by “Sports and Games” and finally “Shopping”.
